Nadia Sheikh

I am a British-Spanish indie-pop rock artist and songwriter who has built her career independently, balancing creativity, strategy, networking, opportunity finding and hard work. The perspective I bring is not theory, but the actual real-life experience in the mechanics of running an independent artist business day to day from the same seat as you. I can help you build a roadmap, gain confidence and navigate the industry as an independent artist.

I've self-released music in both English and Spanish that has earned airplay on BBC Radio 1, BBC 6 Music (Chris Hawkins, Steve Lamacq), Radio X  (John Kennedy), RTVE (Spain), Radio 3 (Spain), Antyradio (Poland) and Cadena Ser to name a few; secured editorial playlist spots on Apple Music and Deezer and international syncs including Love Island and Twelve Dates Till’ Christmas (Hallmark US). All using independent and self-managing strategies.

On the live front, I've toured across the UK, Europe, and North America, supporting the likes of Stereophonics on a 19 date European tour, including Manchester and Cardiff arena shows, opening for Bastille at the Brighton Centre and PJ Harvey and Texas at Noches del Botánico in Madrid, I have performed at national and international showcases like NXNE (Toronto), SoundCity, Alt Escape, ProWeekend, and  festivals like Glastonbury, Isle of Wight, Y Not, Kendal Calling, and FIB  BenicÃssim. My performances span full-band, acoustic, and bilingual  sets, adapted for different audiences and stages. I've also been awarded  funding for showcase support by PRS Foundations International Showcase Fund.

As part of my artist work, I've built and executed release campaigns from the ground up - handling everything from production to content planning to digital marketing. I have experience in planning and successfully executing self-promoted tours, working with external promoters, managing budgets for recording and live, sole trader artist-focused self-accounting, working with producers, artwork creation and graphic design, video editing, content filming, editing and planning…and pretty much anything an artist needs to do nowadays!

As well as an artist, I am also a teacher and an active songwriter, collaborating with other writers, and working with other artists on their  projects. I am published by independent publisher Wixen UK. I have worked  with producers such as Joe Cross (Louis Tomlinson, Slow Readers Club), Brett Shaw (FOALS, Florence and the Machine), Nigel Walker (El Canto del Loco, La  Oreja de Van Gogh); and writers such as Mark Goldenberg (Eels, Natalie  Imbruglia), Jamie Morrison (Stereophonics, Noisettes,  86TVs), Paul Freeman (James Blunt), Chris Wood - Woody (Bastille), Will Farquarson (Bastille), LALO GV (Arde Bogota, Hens), as well as new artists like Mackenzie and BLVCK VIOLET.

Other creative work includes credits is piano arrangements and talent teaching for BBC’s prime time drama The Other Bennet Sister, talent teaching for Outrageous, and consulting work for ABRSM’s Music Production syllabus.

"I've had periods like most artists where this lifestyle gets heavy but I never stop the sessions because Nadia has always been in tune with how Im feeling, and on the spot modifies the lesson to help me out. I really could not recommend her more. She's got so much knowledge beyond her years, and really understands the needs of another artist." (Mike)

"Being mentored by Nadia has been a gift. I was lucky enough to meet her at a very delicate time in my journey as an artist, right before the release of my first album. She offered me invaluable insight on what it truly means to be a self-sufficient artist, especially as a young woman finding her space in the industry. Her honesty is refreshing and her encouragement comes from a place of deep experience and knowledge. She empowered me to believe in my own artistry and gave me amazing tools to take my next steps into my career." (Emanuela)
