George Ergatoudis is one of the UK music industry’s most influential and respected executives, with a career spanning more than three decades at the intersection of music, media, and technology. Renowned for his instinctive ear for talent, creative leadership, and strategic vision, he has played a pivotal role in shaping how audiences discover and experience music across broadcast, streaming, and digital platforms.
George began his career at the BBC, producing programmes across BBC Radio 1 before joining Island Records’ 4th & Broadway label as Club Promotion Manager. He then joined Kiss 100FM in the early 1990s as Senior Producer, helping to establish Kiss as one of the UK’s most dynamic and forward-thinking music brands, championing cutting-edge talent and new genres. In 1997, he returned to the BBC to produce major daytime shows and later helped launch BBC Radio 1Xtra. He went on to become Head of Music for BBC Radio 1 and 1Xtra, overseeing one of the most influential programming portfolios in British broadcasting.
During his tenure, he was instrumental in supporting and breaking artists including Adele, Ed Sheeran, Florence + The Machine, and Stormzy, and is credited with transforming BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge into a global cultural brand that redefined short-form live performance content in the streaming era.
In 2016, George joined Spotify, initially as Head of UK Content, before being promoted to Head of International Shows & Editorial, leading programming strategy and shaping global editorial direction as the platform evolved into the dominant force in music streaming.
Two years later, he moved to Apple Music as Head of Music, UK & Ireland, where he led growth strategy, industry relations, editorial playlists, and original content. He launched the Apple Music Sessions performance series and oversaw the rollout of The Agenda Live, a short-form video franchise spotlighting emerging artists and cultural stories.
Today, George leads The Sound Hack, his consultancy advising companies, artists, managers, and investors on the future of music and entertainment in the AI era.
